PRESIDENT'S LETTER:   May, 2026

Hello CSOC members!

May flowers are certainly all around us, and it's a beautiful spring complete with a few rain showers. All of this reminds me that it takes a bit of rain to appreciate the beautiful days.

April events were organized by Debbie Peacock and Elena Moglia. They took adventure to the heights with an adventurous River Island kayaking outing, a walk through the Green Swamp Nature Preserve and attendance at the Pelicans Baseball Game. In addition, they planned a well-attended Jazz happy hour at the Carolina Steak and Seafood House. Everyone attending these events had a great time. Our own Rosemary Farrell has been producing a dance showcase for 14 years. Several of us attended that, and we were completely entertained by a variety of dances performed by many of the dance organizations in the Grand Strand. Truly an event not to be missed next year. Thank you to Debbie Elena and Rosemary for making April events such a success.

Our May events were planned by Mary Alice Blackburn and Tina Ballard. May was started off with the annual Kentucky Derby Day fundraiser held at beachfront kitchen. Those who attended had a great time at this Optimist Club fundraiser. Elena commented that this was the most successful in many years. A big thank you to all who attended and made contributions to The Optimist Club to help them do so many important things for our community. Our club meeting was held on Cinco de Mayo this year, and those who attended had fun eating from the taco bar provided by the Giant Crab and participating in the festivities. There will be a celebration for Moms May 9th at the Blackburn's home, a happy hour and music bingo at the 810 bowling in Market Common a Thirsty Thursday Falcons ballpark outing, a concert at the La Belle Amie Vineyard, mini golf and happy hour in Myrtle Beach, dinner and a movie at Coastal Grand Mall and Abuelos restaurant, the annual bocce ball and BBQ Memorial Day party at Elena's and a happy hour mixed media trivia at 810 bowling in North Myrtle Beach completing the month. Please sign in, go to the events tab and sign up for some or all of these events. You will have fun and make new friends.

Our next monthly meeting will be June 9th at the Myrtle Beach State Park, Pavilion 3. Bring your own non-alcoholic drink and enjoy the beautiful setting and a slice of pizza.

We have folks signed up to host events through September. Elena is now looking for hosts for October and November. Please step up and say that you are interested in being an event host, and I'm sure one or two others will join you. Talk with Elena or me and we will get you set up with all you need to make it easy to do.

Members, like any other volunteer organization, volunteers always get more than they give. I have been blessed by our membership more than once and I'm grateful in ways that I could not even imagine. Plus, we all want to have fun, and there's nothing more fun than to see a group of people come to an event and really enjoy themselves. Please take advantage of your membership by signing up and attending events and helping where and when you can.

Those going on the Portugal trip remember to open your emails, read them and respond to the requests made by John Schwartz.

We are growing in number and as we do, sit with somebody you don't know and get to know them. Extend that attitude of gratitude when attending events. But most of all, appreciate that you belong to a club designed with you in mind. We all want to go, see and do as much as we can while we can.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, participating in all the ways that you can and continuing to make this club a memorable part of each of our lives.

Sincerely,

Annie Laurie Lehman
