President’s Letter April 2024
WOW!!! Lots has happened since I wrote to you last… The club has grown to 139 members, we celebrated St Patrick's Day at our last meeting, we toured the police station and the airport tower, visited the new Dirty Don's in Market Common for Happy Hour and had trivia at Hanley’s. We had a great month due to the planning of Kathy and Joe Calabretta. At our March meeting we inducted 2 new members to the Book of Fame, Pat Van and Grey Culbreth and we honored Past-President Mary Alice Blackburn. But just you wait, we have an awesome April planned by Sherry Walters and Roxanne Maglione. We kick off the month with a trip to Patriot's Point in Mt Pleasant followed by a Ladies Day at Hopie Hippie, and it does not stop all month with great activities planned for every week. We end the month with a watch party at the Dragon Boat event and the Senior Senior Prom on the 27th. Then Beach Day on the 28th as a follow-up to the Prom - I remember going to the beach after my prom! Did You?
I want to stress that the Senior Senior Prom is for Singles and Couples. We already have a number of singles signed up for the Prom. It should be a fun night to remember years gone by as we dine on a buffet and dance to the old tunes of yesteryear. It's a BYO event at the Carolina Waterway Plantation's Community Center for Only $20 per person. Come decked out in your Prom attire and remember to send your High School or prom photo to Joe at jcal01@concast.met by April15th. Registration for the event will be cut off on April 20thin order to plan for food for the event. This is a member only event therefore you must log on to the website to see the event and register. Be sure to sign up for the great list of events this month. It will be a fun packed month.
This month we are also presenting our slate of candidates for our 2024-2025 Board of Directors. This proposed slate will be presented to the general membership at the April meeting. Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the April meeting after which time nominations will be closed.
The election will be conducted at the May membership meeting after the slate of nominees is presented for the second time. A simple majority of members present will determine the results and the new officers assume office on June 1.
The positions that we will be voting on this spring are:
President-Judy Ombrello, President-Elect Annie Laurie Lehman, Vice President of Meetings-Grey Culbreth, Vice President of Activities-Joe Calabretta, Secretary-Peggy Christie and Treasurer-Karen McCurry.
